Taking Hobbies Beyond the House in Alaska

By Chris Blackerby

Where ever you go around the country, there would definitely be people who take interest in making crafts as a hobby. Some create delicious pastries from recipes handed down in the family or even recipes made on their own. Some create crafts from textiles: quilted, knitted and crocheted items. And some even make works of art out of wood. There are definitely many others aside from these. But why keep such a skill at home? There are venues where one can showcase these talents. Crafts and trade fairs and festivals are definitely events where you can be given a chance to do this.

But how do you begin with a blank slate? You certainly would find yourself somehow lost without anyone you know to talk to about participating or without some way to fish out the latest fairs and festivals in and around where you are in Alaska.

A way to go about this is that you would need to network efficiently with other people participating and organizing these fairs to get wind of the latest happening. But let's say you're a beginner at all this without any contact with others who attend festivals and without any knowledge of what to do first? What would you do now or who would you approach?

For every state there is a database of their fairs and festivals that you could attend. And for your convenience in Alaska, there is even a calendar with these events you could use.

There is always a sort of charm attached to everything homemade and handmade: Homemade preserves, homemade cookies, hand-knitted scarves or handcrafted lawn ornaments. They all carry a sort of warmth that attracts all sorts of people. Surely they would appreciate these skills being shared with them. And who knows? Maybe your crafts would gain some attention there. Besides sharing your talents, you could gain some recognition and a little extra income. Isn't that something to look forward to?

By joining a service that keeps you updated on all these fairs and festivals happening in Alaska you would have an easier time scheduling your time for getting your crafts ready for an event, selecting the next event you could sign up for or even just be informed of the next time you could go somewhere to get new inspiration for your craft. Talent is meant to be shared with people, after all. And it doesn't hurt to earn from it, too. - 16003
