I don't know about you, but I love Christmas decorations - seeing them as well as creating them - and this certainly includes cupcake decorations. After all, 'tis the season for a bit more ... shall we say enjoyment of treats than usual? So go ahead and have some fun decorating those cupcakes - and of course eating them!
- Sprinkles are just about the easiest way to go, any time of year. For quick and simple, yet festive Christmas cupcakes, all you need do is bake up a batch of cupcakes (from scratch, or if you're really in a time crunch, use your favorite mix.) Then, top with green, white, or red frosting; toss on some green and red sprinkles, and you have quick and easy Christmas cupcakes.
- The weather outside may be frightful ... many, mini-snowdrifts-in-a-cup is the idea here. Top your little cakes with white icing (you can use red or green if you like) toss on some grated coconut, and dust them with powdered sugar. Who needs a horse and sleigh out in the cold ... when these are a lot toastier - and tastier?
- Quick, easy Christmas trees - your local grocer should have an assortment of gel icing, in tubes - green or red are best, of course - but go with whatever color(s) you like. Top your cupcakes with white icing, and simply draw Christmas tree shapes on the cakes, using your gel icing. Try wavy lines, or simple triangles with basic trunks in drawing your trees ... as always, don't be afraid to experiment a little!
- Here's a fun idea, not only for Christmas parties, but birthdays as well - start with an array of colored frosting, then create a gift-wrapped "present-ation" atop each cupcake with your decorations. Bows are made using red (or even other colors of) licorice; sprinkles or other small candies should be used sparingly. Your gift tags can double as name cards, and you've got colorful, imaginative (and yummy) place setting markers!
- Snowman cupcakes ... children will love these ... cover the cake with white icing; put on a large marshmallow, then another small marshmallow on top. To keep everything together, put a toothpick through the marshmallows, all the way down into the cupcake. For your snowman's face, use small candies for the eyes, mouth etc. - using a small blob of icing will help stop the candies from falling off.
- The Polar Express has nothing on us - create individual train cars, starting with Tootsie Rolls or other treats of same basic shape and size (you might need to do some trimming, such as with fruit leather or licorice.) Round candies - most any kind - are good for your train's wheels, and try black licorice strips for the tracks. Try "engineering" a true train-like formation on a long platter with multiple "cars" in a row - what a festive centerpiece!
Hope you have a lot of fun making and eating these festive Christmas cupcakes. You can get many cupcake decorations from your local grocer. But if you're looking for very special cupcake decorations try our recommended supplier. - 16003
